Thursday, March 7th – The Journey Begins… EARLY!
Arrive at Sacopee at 6 am to collect, check in, bag check, and board the bus.
The next time you get off the bus we will be in Quebec!
When we arrive in Quebec City, we check into the Youth Hostel (like a dorm), Auberge Internaionale de Québec (www.aubergeinternationaledequebec.com), and deposit our bags. Then, we begin our tour of Quebec with an overview of the city – literally – from the 31st floor of the Observatoire de la Capitale (www.observatoirecapitale.org). There, we have a guided tour, introducing us to the sites, history and culture of Quebec.
We eat dinner at one of our favorite restaurants, Auberge du Trésor (www.quebecweb.com/aubergedutresor/), across from the Chateau Frontenac. After dinner, several activities are available: toboggan by the Chateau Frontenac (if it’s running), souvenir shopping along the way, ice skating at the local rink, Fitness centre and/or heated pool at the hotel (if available), etc. Maybe we could catch a movie or a hockey game?
Friday, March 10th – Exploring the City and Beyond…
We begin the day with a walking tour through Le Vieux Québec (the Old City), visiting the Basilica (Quebec Cathedral), Chateau Frontenac the famous luxury hotel of Quebec City, the monument to Champlain and Montcalm/Wolff, and then down the hill to Vieux Port and Quartier Petit Champlain, the oldest part of Quebec. Here we will stop at Place Royale. There is some free time for lunch and to explore the nearby shops, restaurants and cafés.
You have the opportunity at this time to visit one of Quebec’s museums, such as the Musée de l’Amérique Français (http://www.mcq.org/fr/maf) to learn more about the founding of Quebec in 1608, four hundred years ago! Or to visit the Musée de la Civilization, Quebec’s modern museum (www.mcq.org),* full of all kinds of interesting exhibits. Or perhaps you would like to visit the Fine Arts Museum of Quebec (www.mnba.qc.ca) or the Citadelle (fort) (http://www.lacitadelle.qc.ca/en/la-citadelle.html). *Check out www.museocapitale.qc.ca and visit the Museum Highway (Crossroads). Lots of sites in Quebec are listed here. We meet in the Quartier Petit Champlain to take ferry across the St. Lawrence River, where the bus will pick us up and take us to dinner. Dinner tonight is at a Cabane à Sucre (Sugar Shack) (www.erabliere-cheminduroy.qc.ca/). We will have a tour of the sugar shack, sleigh rides, a typical Quebec Maple Sugar Shack Meal, Maple Taffy on snow, AND entertainment with traditional song and dance. This is always a GREAT time!
Saturday, March 11th – Au Revoir Quebec !
Time to take in any last minute sites and sounds of Vieux Quebec. We’ll board the bus in the morning and visit Sainte Anne de Beaupré (http://www.ssadb.qc.ca/) and we’ll take a look at Les Chutes Montmorency (Montmorency Falls) (www.chutemontmorency.qc.ca) before heading home. We hope to arrive at SVHS between 7-8 pm.
Retired activities:
We used to have a Tour of the Ice Hotel (Hotel de Glace) that was rebuilt every year from ice! (www.valcartier.com/en/activities/ice-hotel) Alas, plans change.
